Client Description
A high-growth wafer fabrication operation is looking for an Equipment Engineer at Lead or Manager level to take ownership of equipment performance across Dry Etch, CVD, and PVD process modules. This is a pivotal hire for a team that is scaling fast — we are looking for someone who brings both technical depth and the energy to drive a team forward in a dynamic fab environment.
Role Description
-Manages a team of Equipment Engineers and Technicians
-Owns team scheduling, performance, and development
-Accountable for module-level uptime and KPI targets
-Drives PM programmes, spare parts strategy, and cost control
-Interfaces with Process, Facilities, and Manufacturing leadership
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Installation & Qualification
– Lead or support installation of new Dry Etch, CVD (PECVD, LPCVD, ALD), and PVD equipment from initial delivery through site acceptance
– Execute and oversee IQ, OQ, and PQ qualification protocols; ensure tools meet process specification before handover to production
– Coordinate with process, facilities, and manufacturing teams during tool bring-up to resolve integration issues efficiently
– Maintain accurate installation records, qualification data, and deviation logs throughout the tool acceptance cycle
Equipment Uptime & Reliability
– Own equipment availability and uptime targets across assigned process modules; monitor performance indices and drive improvement actions
– Lead root cause analysis for equipment failures and excursions; implement corrective actions and verify effectiveness
– Develop, review, and optimise Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules to minimise unplanned downtime and extend component lifetimes
– Manage critical spare parts inventory to ensure maintenance activities are never delayed by parts availability
– Apply SPC and data-driven analysis to identify trends, predict failures early, and drive proactive interventions
Process & Technical Support
– Work closely with process engineers to understand process sensitivities and translate them into equipment control strategies
– Troubleshoot equipment-driven process excursions — film non-uniformity, etch rate drift, particle events, chamber matching issues
– Support process recipe qualifications, chamber matching, and fleet baseline activities across tool sets
– Evaluate and implement engineering changes, retrofits, and upgrades in collaboration with equipment vendors
Team Leadership & Development (Manager Track / Senior Lead)
– Lead and coach a team of engineers and technicians; set clear expectations, review performance, and develop technical capability within the team
– Coordinate staffing coverage across shifts; plan and allocate resources for maintenance activities and project work
– Drive a culture of ownership, safety, and continuous improvement on the fab floor
– Facilitate knowledge transfer and cross-training to build a resilient, multi-skilled team
Continuous Improvement & Cost
– Identify and drive cost reduction initiatives — spare parts optimisation, vendor negotiations, in-house repair capabilities
– Champion 5S, housekeeping, and safety compliance across the equipment area
– Track and report on key equipment metrics (uptime, MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance) to engineering and operations leadership
-Suitable for candidates with prior people management experience
Requirements
• Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline
• Minimum 6 years of equipment engineering experience in a wafer fab environment; 8–10+ years preferred for Manager track
• Hands-on experience with one or more of the following: Dry Etch (RIE/ICP/CCP), CVD (PECVD/LPCVD/ALD/SACVD), or PVD (sputter deposition)
• Strong background in equipment troubleshooting, PM execution, and root cause analysis in a high-volume fab setting
• Familiarity with equipment qualification frameworks (IQ/OQ/PQ) and fab acceptance processes
• Proficiency in SPC, data analysis, and use of fab MES/ERP systems (e.g. SAP, WorkStream, Promis)
• For Manager track: demonstrated experience leading a team of engineers or technicians, including scheduling, mentoring, and performance management
• Energetic, self-motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where priorities can shift quickly
• Strong communication skills — able to work effectively across engineering, operations, and management levels
